βGenesisβ by Toby Tylass out now on Bucktin Records
From the moment it starts, GENESIS is an electronic pop train with no brakes, packed with so much energy, detail and sheer melodic information that it feels like there is always another hook waiting around the corner... and there always is!
I previously worked with Toby on his single βPressureβ which was already a brilliantly energetic track, but GENESIS takes that intensity and pushes it even further. The production is fantastic throughout, with an elaborate synth horn arrangement that runs through the track and gives it a huge amount of character. It's bold, playful and catchy as hell!
As strong as the production is though, the vocals are the real star of the show. The track seems to contain an almost endless series of hooks, with one vocal idea flowing straight into the next. Just when you think you have reached the main chorus or the line that is going to stick in your head, another one arrives immediately afterwards. The lyrics are similarly unpredictable, full of mind-bending phrases and unexpected turns that add to the slightly chaotic, larger-than-life feel of the whole thing.
There is a real skill to making something this complex feel exciting rather than overwhelming. GENESIS is absolutely rammed with ideas, but they all contribute to the same sense of forward motion. Nothing hangs around for too long, the energy never drops, and the track just keeps charging ahead.
I had a fantastic time mastering this one. With a production this dense and energetic, the job was to preserve all of that movement and excitement while making sure the hooks, synths and vocals could still punch through clearly.
