How To Export Multitracks In Studio One

If you’re sending a Studio One session off for mixing, the main thing you need is one clearly named audio file per track, exported in a format that will open cleanly and in sync when imported into the mix engineer's DAW.

Before exporting, make sure you have properly prepared your multitracks for mixing. If you need help with that first, read Preparing Your Multitracks For Mixing.

How To Export Your Multitracks

1. Open the Export Stems window

Go to Song > Export Stems.

2. Choose whether to export Tracks or Channels

Use the Tracks tab if you want to export the raw audio files without effects or inserts printed.

Use the Channels tab if you want to print each channel’s full effects chain instead. This also lets you export other mixer channels, including the main bus, effect buses, and any output buses you have created.

If you are exporting multitracks for mixing, the Tracks tab will usually be the right choice. If you are not sure what effects should stay on and what should come off before export, read Should I Leave Effects On When Exporting Multitracks?.

3. Select the tracks or channels you want to export

Check the box next to each track or channel you want to include.

If you are exporting multitracks for mixing, the Tracks tab will usually be the right choice.

4. Set your export options

Choose your file format, bit depth, sample rate and save location.

As a general rule, WAV or AIFF is fine, 24-bit is usually the right choice unless you explicitly recorded at, or only used samples that are 16-bit, and the sample rate should match the project’s native sample rate.

5. Export the files

Once everything is set, click OK to begin the export.

What To Check Before Sending

Once Studio One has exported the files, open the folder and give it a quick check.

Make sure:

  • The expected tracks are all there

  • The file names are clear

  • Everything starts from the same point

  • Nothing has been cut off

If you are sending the tracks to a mix engineer, it is also a good idea to include a rough mix alongside the exported files.
