Andy Fillmore - “The Falling Man”

I recently had the pleasure of mixing and mastering “The Falling Man” by Melbourne singer-songwriter Andy Fillmore.

Andy is an independent artist based in Melbourne, blending folk and rock influences with a strong focus on evocative songwriting, memorable melodies, and heartfelt vocal performances. He regularly performs around Melbourne, both with original music and his own take on acoustic covers.

“The Falling Man” is a beautifully written acoustic-driven track that steadily grows into something much bigger. It begins with an intimate, songwriter-led feel, then builds into an epic crescendo with hard-hitting electric guitar, driving rhythm section work, and soaring vocal harmonies.

The song features:

Andy Fillmore - vocals, guitar, songwriting
Simon Hanna - drums
George Last - bass

What stood out to me most was the strength of the songwriting. The arrangement has plenty of impact when it opens up, but the heart of the track is still Andy’s melody and vocal performance. There’s a real sense of lift as the song develops, and the harmonies in the final section add a huge emotional payoff without losing the intimacy of the earlier acoustic foundation.

From a mixing perspective, the goal was to keep that natural singer-songwriter character intact while allowing the track to expand as the arrangement grew. The acoustic guitar and vocal needed to feel close and honest at the start, while the later sections needed enough size, width, and weight to support the electric guitars, drums, bass, and layered vocals.

The master was then shaped to give the track a polished, full, and release-ready sound while preserving the dynamics of the build. With a song like this, the crescendo is a huge part of the emotional journey, so it was important not to flatten that movement too much.

It was a real pleasure working on this one. “The Falling Man” is a powerful song with excellent performances throughout, but above all, it’s a great piece of songwriting from Andy Fillmore.
