Groove, Love, Bark 3 by Greg Alper Band is out today
I had the pleasure of mixing and mastering Groove, Love, Bark 3, the new EP from Greg Alper Band, released today, 1st May 2026.
Greg is a remarkably talented multi-instrumentalist with a gift for wonderful songwriting across every genre imaginable. I feel genuinely privileged to be able to work on his creative output and help bring these songs to life in the mix and master. His creativity, range and generosity as an artist make every project a real joy to be part of, and I’m always inspired by how much imagination, musicianship and heart he pours into the work.
Greg has written some brilliant notes about the project, the musicians involved, and the stories behind each track. Rather than trying to summarise it all myself, I’ll let Greg describe it properly in his own words below. And when you’re finished reading, go give it a spin:
Notes on Groove, Love, Bark 3 - Greg Alper Band
"Groove, Love Bark 3" is the 3rd installment of my latin compositions. I feel very privileged that some of the world’s greatest musicians performed these songs with me. Separated by continents and Oceans, together we are the latest incarnation of the Greg Alper Band.
Bobby Mustol (Flugelhorn and Keys), Bill Markus (Bass), Joe Gaeta (Guitar) are from LA, where I was living at the time. We were joined by virtuoso guitarist Grant Geissman on my song Ziggy and Me. Each musician recorded his tracks in his own studio. It’s a testament to their skill that the recordings present such a tight ensemble.
We were joined by Steve Eisen (Flutes) in Chicago, Nina Chikvaladze (Violins) in Eastern Europe, GerMÁN TromB'ON (Trombone) and Alejo Perejcuba (Percussion) in Columbia.
Mick Morrison masterfully and magically Mixed and Mastered the tracks. Mick is a gem. I am very grateful and lucky to have met him. He brought out every nuance and detail of my arrangements and orchestrations. Together we were able to create exactly the right vibe for each song. He’s always cheerful, meticulous and an immense pleasure to work with. I continue to be impressed how Mick can give me exactly what I want in any style. We’ve worked together on albums with Full Orchestra, Pop Ensembles, Latin Groupos, Jazz Combos and R&B bands.
The first track, Land of Mystery, is performed by GerMÁN’s 10 piece salsa band El Clan del Solar, who gave a killer performance. I laid down the sax track in LA.
Pacific Palisades is a sonic painting of my picturesque town largely destroyed by the Jan 2025 fire. Beautiful playing on a gentle and emotional Bossa Nova. Great solos by Bobby (Flugelhorn) and Steve (Flute).
Silver Dreams features Steve on Flutes backed by Alejo, Bill, Bobby, GerMÁN and Nina.
Z-LA by Moonlight digs in a little harder and with more intensity. Spectacular percussion work by Alejo, with Nina providing an emotion rendering of my string arrangement. Solos by Bobby (Flugelhorn) and me (Tenor Sax).
Ziggy and Me is a tribute to my late dog, my best friend for 15 years and an exceptional Malinois/Husky mix (watch the video). The track is multilayered with African percussion, 4 piece horn section, groovin’ rhythm section and tenor sax lead. Bill lays down a compelling African bass groove. Great solos by Bobby (Piano) and Grant (Guitar).
We sincerely hope you enjoy Groove, Love, Bark 3.”
